Efedra i Baladre
Album · Crystal Mine · 2019
Efedra i Baladre is a work conceived for cassette format and released in 2019 by Crystal Mine, a label known for its handcrafted editions and strong presence within the Iberian experimental sound scene.
The album was composed as a research and inspiration project centred on wild plants growing around the place where the artist lives. Two plants — Ephedra and Oleander — become the conceptual axis of the work.
Concept
Ephedra is a low shrub from which ephedrine is extracted, one of the most widely used alkaloids in pharmacology, associated with healing and revitalisation. Oleander, on the other hand, is a poisonous and toxic plant that can be lethal, historically used as poison and today present in gardens and highways.
This contrast between colourful natural beauty and the dual forces of healing and death inspired the compositions. The guitar often acts as the organic element, surrounded by layers of complexity, unpredictability and latent danger — mirroring nature itself, which hides the secrets it contains.
